Lesson 4: Bridging the Generation Gap

CONTENT
It is observable that there are differences with the older generation with the new generation in many ways. These includes the way of clothing, way of communication, and even in showing affection towards others. Even in educational system there is also what is termed as generation gap. This gap was caused by many factors such as race, culture, and to what country do you belong. In educational system, many schools remain to be traditional despite the rising of the digital world. This is common to countries that belong to the third world. Those countries that are having low- economic stability that also affects their educational system. The rise of technology or much known as the Information and Communication Technology has potentials that were also one of the reasons there was a gap between the traditional school and the digital one. ICT helps people communicate with each other even across to other countries or overseas because of its global communication or networking. Old technologies are vanishing because they are replaced with new technologies that were more useful than them. This gap became a problem to traditional schools because students may lose interest in going to school because of the absence of technology.

EXPERIENCE
In school or even in our community, it can be observed the gap between our parents and to us, the new generation. Because there are things that our parents does not know how to use or operate such as new gadgets. This affects the relationship among family members. During high school, our school is a traditional one. We are not allowed to use the laboratory apparatus and students that can use or have access with internet and computers are limited. This affected me because from a traditional world, I shifted to the digital world and I find it difficult to adapt the new environment.

REFLECTION
As future teachers, we should help to bridge this generation gap with our students. That is why we need to be knowledgeable with modern technology so that we will not be left behind with our new generation learners. It is undeniable that they learn more than we do because they are more curious to discover new things. We must know our roles as future teachers to avoid this gap to widen.

APPLICATION
As much as possible, involve the technology in our daily lessons. For our students to learn as well as ourselves. For the students to be interested to learn, we should have activities that would cater their interests and also providing them projects that would allow them to use multimedia. Schools should also make sure that the things needed by the students to have an active learning should be provided.

Lesson 3: Understanding the Technology Learners

CONTENT
The new generation learners are said to be smarter and most often, they use the products of modern technology in their daily lives such as internet, cellphone and many more. There are positive sides of using technology as well as there are negative effects of it. Technology now is being enhanced even more so that it could become more useful to the community. In education, emerging technologies did a great help for students to have a better learning. The Knowledge of students become meaningful when they are able to relate with it and they can see examples so that they can construct their own meaning. It is said that students construct knowledge through variety of tools or instructional materials, experiences and resources.

EXPERIENCE
Learning is meaningful when we are able to have hands-on activities or projects. The knowledge would remain with us. Having projects such as photo editing or video editing and other projects that wold require the use of multimedia were effective.

REFLECTION
As future teachers, we should have the determination to know and understand our new generation learners or the technology learners. We must formulate or think of activities that would caught their interests. We must find strategies in our teaching styles for them to stay attentive during the class. There are many distractions to them that may cause for them not to listen to the discussion anymore. So we must do our best that they will be motivated to learn.

APPLICATION
It is a great challenge to us future teachers on how to be able to understand the technology learners. As much as possible, in the class, use strategies or methods that would involve the participation of the students and as an assessment tool, have performance based outputs or activities and product oriented assessment. In this way, we can cope up with them and we are helping them to use technology wisely and on educational purposes only.

Lesson 2: An Overview of Educational Technology 2

CONTENT
Comparing the 90th and 21st century educational system, we can say that there was really a difference between the two. In the 90th century, it is more on the teacher- centered method, relies solely on the book and does not uses or applies technology as an aid for instruction. The source of knowledge were the teachers alone. On the other hand, 21st century education uses technology as an aid in instruction and is integrated to the activities to be done by the students. Therefore, technology is vital for the teaching- learning process.
Because of this, students were able to understand fully the lessons for they can watch video clips, still pictures or animated pictures related to the topic discussed to them.

EXPERIENCE
The rise of technology and its role in education indeed help a lot in teaching- learning process for it to become active. Based on what we had experienced, topics discussed to us becomes easier to understand and get its concept when the teacher shows us video clip and pictures of what he/ she discussed. We become more interested to learn and participate in activities when it was aided with technology.

REFLECTION
As future teachers, we should be ahead to our students in terms of the knowledge or mastery of the subject matter we are going to teach and also the skills in operating multimedia so that we can go with them or we can have ideas on how can we teach with the aid of technology as our instructional materials. As early as now, we should practice or enhance our skills in operating tools and equipment specially in operating computers and using programs to do certain tasks as teachers and to have activities to students.

APPLICATION
It is indeed important that using technology as one of the instructional materials for this makes the teaching- learning process active. Showing video clips or pictures as examples to the topic being discussed would help the students to really understand the concept of what we are teaching.

LESSON 1 : A REVIEW OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY 1

CONTENT- This lesson is about what was the coverage of Ed Tech 1. It includes the roles of technology to Educational process such as an aide of the teacher in transporting knowledge to students. Technology could either be a boon or bane to the learners depending on the usage of this. It also includes the Cone of Experience by Edgar Dale in which this one was arranged according to the degree of abstraction. At the bottom of the cone is the direct purposeful experiences and then at the top, verbal symbols. But this does not necessarily mean that the learning of students follow this cone from top to bottom or vice versa. Next was the Systematized Instruction for effective teaching and use of appropriate Instructional Materials for that specific topic. There is also the 3PF which stands for Prepare Yourself, Prepare Your students, Present the Material and Follow Up.There were also applications of what we had learned in Edtech 1. These includes creating rubrics, photo- editing, on-line class, comic strip making and also video editing.

EXPERIENCE-  In the Cone of Experience by Edgar Dale, it is true that students’ learning does not follow the order of the cone from top to bottom or from bottom to top. Sometimes, we learn by the pictures or videos shown to us and not by direct contact with that object. Based on experience, teachers must abide with their objectives for them to be in the right track of the lesson for that day because if they do not have a guide or objectives of that day, he/ she might not know what topic should he/she teach.

REFLECTION- It is important that teachers should provide students with activities that would enhance their skills on technology or multimedia and develop their critical thinking skills. Having hands-on activities with computer would help a lot to us students for we can use this skills and expertise in the future for we can also teach our future students with what we have learned.

APPLICATION- As future teachers, we must understand the role of technology to education. We must remember that this will only aide in our presentation of the topics or lesson to students for them to have a greater understanding of the topic. This does not mean that when we use technology as an Instructional Material, students no longer needs us. We must guide them throughout the process of learning, we must act as facilitators. We must also follow the systematized Instruction for us to be ready of what we are going to teach, if the objectives are attainable, if materials used were appropriate, and if the assessment method matches with the objectives set.
