Lesson 15- Understanding Hypermedia
CONTENT- Hypermedia is a multimedia used as an educational computer software where information is presented and activities are integrated in a virtual learning environment. Hypermedia includes tutorial software packages, knowledge webpages, simulation instructional games and learning project management. The presentation of information in hypermedia is in a non- linear manner, in which the learner follows his own path of activities. The characteristics of hypermedia applications are the learner control, which means that the learner makes his own decision on path and flow of events. Second is the learner wide range of navigation routes, means the learner controls the sequence and pace of his path that depends on his ability. Third is the variety of media. Hypermedia includes many media such as text, graphics, audio, animation and video clip. But it is not necessary that the learner will use all media in just one presentation.
EXPERIENCE- All about hypermedia, we’ve experienced producing a multimedia project which is the video production. In that project, we are able to use video clips, pictures, audio, animations and other media that were necessary to produce that project. In our genetics and cell biology, we also experienced the simulation instructional games. In that hypermedia, we acted as officers to investigate crimes and we are also like in the forensic lab doing the tests of the evidences taken. It was the application of what was discussed in our lecture and laboratory class. With the use of that simulation game, we are able to conceptualize the lessons discussed to us. We understand its concept and what was that all about. It also feels good because we are able to follow the instructions given in the simulation game and we got high scores at the end of it then we are able to get the right answer to it. It is enjoyable doing or performing those computer- based simulation instructional game because learning really takes place because we are involved in the activity.
REFLECTION- We should let our students experience simulation games when it is applicable to our topic. Because even just in virtual environment, if students are involved in the activity, learning would really take place and this would not be forgotten by the students. And of course, we should let them make hypermedia or multimedia presentation or production as their output to assess their learning. This way, it would enhance their skills in which they would need in the future or in the real- life situation. Because our goals as teachers should be to enhance the skills of the students in which would help them when they are already in their different fields.
APPLICATION- As future teachers, we should:
ü Use computer- based simulation game as assessment of students’ understanding of the topic.
ü Require the students an output of any multimedia production.
ü Let the students do research activities and make a report of it.
